Who can vote?

Voting is open to fans of digital content creators around the world. Voters must be at least 12 years-old.  

How do I vote?

To vote for your favourite digital creator(s) you need to register for an account here. Once you have created an account, you will receive an email confirmation from The Black Academy. Click on the link in the email to login into your account.  Once logged in you can cast your vote(s).

Where do I find the nominees?

The final 6 nominees will be announced in August.

Why is there one submission round and one round of voting?

Round 1: Nominate your favourite creator! We want to hear from you! In this round, the public gets to submit the name of their preferred Black digital content creator. The nominee with the most write-ins will secure a spot among our final 6 nominees. (5 carefully curated by The Black Academy and 1 chosen by YOU!)

Voting Round: Choose the winner! Once all submissions are in, it’s time for the exciting voting round. We will present the list of six phenomenal nominees for The Digital Creator Fan Choice Award. It’s your turn to cast your vote(s) and help decide the ultimate winner.

Who is eligible to be a write in candidate?

The Black Academy defines a digital creator as an individual, duo, or group who creates entertaining and/or educational material publicly acceptable on any social media channel.  

How do I submit a write-in candidate?

To submit a write in candidate users can head to the voting platform found here and type the name of their in the write in box. The submission window is opened from Thursday, July 20 1:00 PM ET – Friday, August 4 11:59 PM ET

How many times can I vote? 

You can vote up to 100 times in any 24-hour period within the voting window. 

When are the submission and voting windows?

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS ROUND OPENS ON THURSDAY, JULY 20 1:00 PM ET – FRIDAY, AUGUST 4 11:59 PM ET

Call for submissions round – Fan are encouraged to write in Digital Creators they would like to see a nominee.

VOTING ROUND ONE OPENS FRIDAY, AUGUST 31 12:01 AM ET – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 @ 6PM ET 

Vote – Fans will vote based on a curated list by the public. TBA to reach out to Digital Creators to encourage their fans to vote for them. 

Voting is open 24 hours a day.

What kind of devices am I allowed to vote from?

Voters are allowed to vote from any device (phone, laptop, etc.) by registering for an account here.

What information do I have to enter in order to vote?

Registration requires an account login.  To register for an account you must enter your name and email.  No other information is required to vote.

Do I have to create an account to vote?

Yes, in order to vote you must to create an account here.

Once registered, check your email to authenticate your account and get voting! 

What happens if I accidentally vote for the wrong person?

Whoops! Accidents do happen, and we totally understand. While we can’t reverse your vote, don’t worry, you still have 99 more votes per day to support your favorite creator!

When will the winner be announced?

The winner will be announced during The Legacy Awards on September 24, 2023 on CBC and CBC Gem.

When are The Legacy Awards?

Tune in to The Legacy Awards on Sunday, Sept 24, 2023 at 8 PM ET on CBC and CBC Gem. 

Who is eligible for this award?

Digital Content Creators that are Black-identifying and Canadian are eligible for this award. 

How are the final top 6 chosen?

Out of the six incredible nominees, five names are carefully selected by The Black Academy and the Tribute Advisory Committee. But guess what? The eighth name is in YOUR hands! Your vote counts, so make sure to nominate your favourite Black digital content creator to be part of this prestigious list!

Is there a way for people to see my username? 

No, people will not be able to see your username or any other information. 

If I’m in the process of voting and I get disconnected, does my progress save?

No. The confirmation that the vote has been saved is the “Thanks for Voting!” page. That appears after a logged in vote or after a user confirms their registration.
